Blind Ambition

L

ast April, I attended one of the most impressive events I’ve ever been to in Dallas. Blind Ukrainian couturier Sergey Ermakov from Kiev came to Dallas for “designing with a VISION”, benefiting the American Foundation for the Blind Center on Vision Loss. Sergey can only see 5% of what you can see and he is living proof that people can live successfully with vision loss – which is the theme of the event. His creations are inspired by art, literature, nature and history. As you can see from our sneak preview video, his designs aren’t just beautiful….they are stunning.  I’ve heard that when you lose one sense, another sense is increased.  This is most certainly true of Sergey, whose sight hasn’t deterred him from whipping up some of the most detailed, ornate, and visually drool-worthy couture this city has ever seen.  Our full presentation of the event launches this Friday, and you’ll want to watch highlights from the Jan Strimple-produced show over and over.  Ermakov may have virtually no sight, but what he can see in his mind exceeds human reason.
